Marking the completion of Singapore’s new RTS Link station, LTA shared the update in a Facebook post on Sep 4, accompanying it with several pictures for a sneak peek of the newly constructed Woodlands North station for the RTS Link.

Construction of the RTS Link Woodlands North station officially started in January 2021, with the RTS Link slated to open for passenger service in 2027.

The Johor Bahru-Singapore RTS Link is a 4km-long bilateral railway project which will connect passengers between Woodlands North in Singapore and Bukit Chagar station in Johor Bahru.

Commuters will be seamlessly connected between the upcoming RTS Link Woodlands North station and the existing Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) Woodlands North station.

LTA added that during peak periods, the RTS Link can carry up to 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction, with a train journey time of about five minutes.

The station’s foundation was challenging to build, said LTA, due to the high volume of hard rock. High-capacity drilling machines were used, and over 600 instances of rock blasting were conducted in smaller, controlled quantities to minimise vibrations felt by TEL commuters.

The RTS Link Woodlands North station colours and design were inspired by trees, incorporating the Woodlands identity of nature, LTA mentioned in its social media post.

Last year, one of the eight RTS Link trains arrived in Singapore and was tested at the Singapore Rail Test Centre in Tuas for a four-month off-site systems integration testing, before being transported to the actual RTS Link tracks for on-site testing works.
